Research interests:

Dr. Larson investigates hydrothermal systems, paleoclimate related to tectonism, and the origin of silicic igneous rocks. He uses stable isotope geochemistry as a primary tool to understand processes that are important in these fields of interest. Current research areas include (1) older hydrothermal alteration exposed in the walls of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River, Yellowstone National Park, (2) paleoelevation of the Cascade Range in Washington and Oregon, and (3), in collaboration with Dr. John Wolff at WSU, rhyolite magmas in the Snake River Plain, Idaho. Other recent projects where Dr. Larson maintains an interest include the investigation of Cu isotope ratios in hydrothermal ore deposits, silicic magmatism on Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, and hydrothermal systems in the San Juan Mountains, Colorado. Dr. Larson’s research is funded by the National Science Foundation.
