Scholarships & Fellowships
Several scholarships and fellowships are available in both Geology and Environmental Science programs in the School of Earth & Environmental Sciences. Details of undergraduate scholarship information can be obtained in College of Sciences at Washigton State University.

Environmental Science Scholarships:
School of Earth & Environmnetal Sciences at Washington State University awards 7 Environmental Science scholarships in each year to qualified undergraduate and graduate students who major in Environmental Science and Regional Planning.Other scholarship information can be obtained from the Links/Resources page.
Graduate Student Fellowships
- Phil and Neva Abelson Fellowship in Environmental Science in the life and physical sciences is intended to help recruit new, outstanding graduate students. One fellowship is available per academic year. Students must be incoming, full-time graduate students.
- Boeing Endowed Graduate Fellowship in Environmental Science was established by the Boeing Company to provide support for graduate students pursuing training in environmental studies. This fellowship stipend may be used by the recipient for such things as tuition, fees, subsistence, research expenses and other educationally related costs and may be renewed each year. The fellowships are for US$1,000.
- Robert Lane Fellowship in Environmental Sciences was established by Robert and by L.W. "Bill" and Jean Lane, to foster education and public knowledge and involvement in environmental sciences. The endowment provides funds for second year graduate students to help with research projects, travel or extraordinary personal needs. Students are required to write a letter of interest for this fellowship.
Undergraduate Student Fellowships & Fellowships
- Lorry and Judy McCroskey Endowment Fund was established by Lorry and Judy McCroskey who believe that environmental issues should be treated immediately and in creating this endowment is a gesture of theirs to assist students pursuing degrees and careers that will help to improve our future environment. This endowment fund may be used to provide scholarship awards for junior and/or senior undergraduate students wishing to continue their education in the Environmental Science and Regional Planning program at Washington State University. It provides full in-state tuition for its recipients. Undergraduate juniors and seniors are encouraged to apply by writing a letter of interest for this scholarship.
- Rockie Family Scholarship provides a US$500 scholarship to Washington State University students majoring in environmental sciences. Recipients of this scholarship shall be selected on the basis of demonstrated academic achievement and financial need by the faculty in Environmental Science and Regional Planning. Undergraduates are encouraged to apply by writing a letter of interest.
- Outstanding Senior Scholarship is funded through the Environmental Science and Regional Planning Development Fund. This scholarship provides full in-state tuition to the outstanding senior undergraduate majoring in Environmental Science. Undergraduate juniors are encouraged to apply spring semester by writing a letter of interest.
- Scholastic Achievement Award is funded through the Environmental Science and Regional Planning Development Fund. Students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 and above receive an Scholastic Achievement Award of $100 for book purchases.

Geology Scholarships:
School of Earth and Environmnetal Sciences at Washington State University awards 13 Geology scholarships and fellowships in each year to qualified geology undergraduate and graduate students.Other scholarship information can be obtained from the Links/Resources page.
Graduate Student Fellowships
- Charles D. Campbell Endowment is available to graduate students whose field of study is petrology.
- James W. Crosby Memorial Scholarship is available to graduate students whose field of study is hydrogeology.
- Harold E. Culver Scholarship is available to undergraduate students majoring in Geology.
- Myron & Marie Huckle Geology Scholarship is available
to undergraduate students majoring in geology and will be a junior or
senior in the next academic year.
- The recipient must be a junior or senior in the SEES Geology’s degree program;
- The recipient must be in good standing and in compliance with all WSU academic requirements. Preference will be given to a student who demonstrates the enthusiasm and love of geology indicative of Myron & Marie Huckle;
- A student may be awarded the scholarship for a maximum of two years;
- A scholarship committee will review applicants and decide on the scholarship recipient.
- To be considered for this scholarship, a student shall be required to complete an application (available from the School of Earth & Environmental Sciences Office) which will include a letter describing why the applicant is interested in the geology profession and the applicant’s ultimate career goals. The application shall be part of the database considered by the SEES scholarship committee.
- Lyle & Lela "Millie" Jacklin Geology Scholarship is available to students in geology. Requirements are not on the basis of grade averages or academic performance, but rather to individuals who have demonstrated a sincere commitment to the study of geological sciences and who have financial need. Normally the award is made to sophomore or junior students, however freshman and transfer students are encouraged to apply. Recipients will be chosen by a four-member committee, which will include a Jacklin family representative. Application forms are available in the School of Earth & Environmental Sciences Office.
- Roger V. LeClerc II Memorial Fellowship is available to graduate students in Geology.
- Joseph W. Mills Endowment is available to graduate students for support of field studies on thesis projects. Priority will be given to students working on economic mineral projects.
- Frank Scott Endowment is available to graduate students for support of field studies on thesis projects. Priority will be given to students working on stratigraphic, sedimentologic, and paleontologic projects.
- Gale C. Knutsen Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship is available to undergraduate students in geology who is either sophomore or junior standing.
- H. Walter & Jeanette Praetorius-Exxon Graduate Fellowship is available to full-time graduate students in the Geology Program in good standing and are receiving teaching or research assistantships.
- Oscar and Muriel Holloway Ferrians Endowment in Geology is available to undergraduate students in the Geology Program in the School of Earth & Environmental Sciences.
- Reynolds-Biersner Scholarship Endowment is available to certified majors without regard to financial need.
- SEES Fund Student Service Award is available to undergraduate or graduate students in Geology who have demonstrated excellence in school service.
